Boys/Girls and what they should do

 Dearest Koko,

I am writing this in a bit of a fit of anger, you know the sort which flares up suddenly and burns you from inside. I thought I will ignore and move on as I do most of the time, but I thought I will leave a note to you for sure.

So you went for a baking class today and you had fun. I posted a few pics and sure as hell one smart Alec had a stupid comment on the lines of this being a girl's hobby or some such. It's 2024, grow up! There's nothing called girl's roles and boys roles. Cooking is a basic life skill which everyone should learn. Surprisingly this comes from a person from my generation, not an uncle or some such. So I cannot even say that they are from "that" generation who believe that there are gender based roles. I guess people have still not moved on from cave people hunter/gatherer roles.

Anyway, that's that person's problem and it is not my job to bring him up to speed and teach him that the world has moved on from the age that his brain is stuck in. My job as your mother is to tell you that you should understand that nothing in the house is restricted to any particular gender. Cooking, washing dishes, folding clothes, cleaning the house - these are not just the job of the mom, or the woman of the house. We all live in the house and it is everyone's job. Similarly, it is not just the man's job to do a job, ensure there is food on the table, be responsible for finances.

As long as you are happy just do what your heart desires - play football with as much heart as you bake, fold clothes with as much joy as you display in picking up the ripest mangoes from the market.

So don't grow up to be an idiot.

Love,

Ma
