Conversations with Friends

 Hi Koko,

You are growing up. You are having meaningful interactions with people and it is such a delight to watch it. On our latest trip to Calcutta you were full of conversations and thankfully for you no one was shushing you. No one was making glaring eyes at you, "No Koko, not now"; "Can we please talk about this later?"; "I have work"; "Do your homework first"; "Can't you see I am on a call?" - these were distant to you.

You would speak and these people would just lap it up. These people being your grandparents. So with Dadan you were Hippity Hop, the India Jones persona who is an adventurer and detective - solving crimes and saving the day. With Mummum you saw gardening in action - picking lemons right off the plant and having juice is the best isn't it? With Granny, you worked through your Netflix playlist and introduced her to new forms of entertainment. To see you all get along like a house on fire is so awesome. You have this space of comfort and safety and it's refreshing to see you babble along and be cheerful the whole day. Happy as I am this does not surprise me. Of course you would be having secret snacks sneaked into your palms by them, of course you would present your grievances towards your parents to them.

As you grew up the last 5 years, I have been a little skeptical of how you would interact with Dadu, and on that account my dear boy, you have assured me yet again that there is no kinder and more understanding soul than you. One day, when the rest of the family was going about their very busy lives you saw Dadu sitting and fiddling with his phone. You saw an opportunity - a person who could play with you. What ensued was beyond our imagination. You spread out a board game and arranged it all by yourself, and patiently sat with him for the next one to two hours and played. Soon the other busy souls from different rooms heard a little boy and his grandfather laugh. Bewildered, the others came out from their rooms to witness this sight and some joined in the game. You were not rude, you were never impatient - you were caring and gentle. You gave him a precious memory, which I was honestly afraid he would not have. Thank you for that, thank you for being you. Unfortunately, I just have a group picture, because we were not there to click one when you were having the most fun :)

Love,

Ma

  1. Such beautifully portrayed picture....The little moments of happiness that koko gave to them, gives them a reason to smile even when he is gone out of the city. The kiddo is so compassionate and it's a sure joy to you.
Loads of love to you guys.
